ABOUT

About

THIS OLD HOUSE

Built in 1923-24 and set in a residential neighborhood, the Six28 House is located just 3/4  of a mile from downtown Elkin, NC.  Historic Elkin is located in the heart of the Yadkin Valley and nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  This stately, traditional home with lots of character, boasts many of its original features along with an inviting wrap-around porch which welcomes all to sit back, relax and stay a while. Enter the home into a spacious foyer with high ceilings, pinewood floors, craftsman style trim and moldings, and beautiful French doors that open into the common areas of the home.  Holly and Keith Stringer are your live in hosts, as well as the seventh owners of the home. Once operated as a boarding house, Holly and Keith are the first to operate the property as a Bed and Breakfast. The Stringers purchased the home in 2018 and since have given this lovely home lots of TLC, and while it has been functionally updated,  they've made sure to maintain its charm of days gone by.

YOUR HOSTS

We are your hosts Holly and Keith Stringer. Originally from the beautiful Hudson Valley area of upstate New York, we've called North Carolina home since 1988, living  in Garner for about 30 years (just south of Raleigh).  When planning for retirement from the airline industry, Keith decided to go back to college at age 50. With lots of hard work and determination, Keith earned his Culinary/Hospitality Management degree with a minor in baking and pastry arts. Keith has had the opportunity to work in both large and small production kitchens, including the Humble Pie in Raleigh and the Harvest Grill at Shelton Vineyards in Dobson, NC.   Holly, a creative and resourceful "Jill of all trades", has had a long career as an administrative assistant, in event planning, graphic design and advertising. Over the years, our love for food and hospitality grew out of our involvement in church and community events. Together, we approach life with a servant’s heart, and a dedication to serving others is who we are.

For many years, we talked about opening a bed and breakfast of our own.  Our “market research” started while traveling through the Yadkin Valley to visit our daughter attending Appalachian State University in Boone. Taking in a vineyard or two, hiking and exploring all the area had to offer, we quickly fell in love with the quaint little town of Elkin and knew this was where we wanted to settle.  With the love and support of family and friends, our journey began.

We are extremely excited to share this grand home with you and our goal is to provide you with a welcoming and refreshing place to relax, enjoy chef created meals, and have a comfy-cozy bed to lay your head on at the end of a busy or not-so-busy day. So whatever brings you to this beautiful area, hiking, biking, wining (no whining please), musicing (just made that up), kayaking, fishing, antiquing, quilting, the list goes on, we welcome you to the Six28 House ..."Where Your Trail Begins!
